Women in Global Health Kenya supports initiatives that promote gender equality, inclusive leadership, and stronger health systems. Through the Gender Transformative Inclusive Leadership (GTIL) Programme, we work to empower women leaders and strengthen governance across the health sector.

Our key focus areas include:

Gender Equality in Health Leadership
We advocate for equal representation and opportunities for women in leadership and decision-making roles within health systems.

Leadership Development
Through training, mentorship, and capacity-building programmes, we support emerging and established leaders to influence policy and governance in health.

Health Systems Strengthening
We work to improve health governance, accountability, and policy engagement to create more effective and inclusive health systems.

Community Leadership and Participation
We empower Community Health Promoters and grassroots women leaders to participate in decision-making processes that affect their communities.

Advocacy and Policy Engagement
We support initiatives that promote gender-responsive policies and advance inclusive health leadership at community, national, and global levels.

Through these priorities, we aim to create equitable health systems where women leaders can influence policies, strengthen institutions, and improve health outcomes for all.

Women in Global Health Kenya identifies communities to support based on need, opportunity for leadership development, and the potential to strengthen local health systems.

We assess several factors when selecting communities, including:

  • Access to health services

  • Representation of women in leadership roles

  • Community health challenges

  • Opportunities to strengthen community health governance

Our approach prioritizes Community Health Promoters, grassroots women leaders, and local health stakeholders who can play an important role in advancing gender-transformative leadership.

We also work closely with local leaders, organizations, and health institutions to ensure that our programmes are context-specific, culturally appropriate, and responsive to the priorities of each community. Our goal is to empower communities to lead change from within rather than impose external solution

At Women in Global Health Kenya, we measure the impact of our programmes using both data-driven indicators and real-life outcomes from the communities we serve.

Through the Gender Transformative Inclusive Leadership (GTIL) Programme, we track progress by evaluating:

  • The number of leaders trained and mentored through GTIL

  • Increased participation of women in health leadership and governance spaces

  • Engagement of Community Health Promoters in policy and decision-making processes

  • Strengthened leadership capacity within community and county health systems

In addition to quantitative data, we also collect participant feedback, success stories, and community testimonials. These insights help us understand how leadership development is influencing health systems and advancing gender equality.

Regular monitoring, evaluation, and reporting ensure that our programmes remain transparent, accountable, and continuously improving in their impact.

Yes, partnerships are a key part of how Women in Global Health Kenya maximizes its impact. We collaborate with a wide range of organizations, including:

  • Local nonprofits and community-based organizations – to strengthen grassroots leadership and ensure programmes meet local needs

  • Government institutions and health agencies – to support policy engagement and inclusive governance

  • International NGOs and global health networks – to exchange knowledge, resources, and best practices

  • Academic and research institutions – to develop evidence-based programmes and the GTIL curriculum

  • Private sector partners – to mobilize resources and amplify advocacy efforts

These collaborations allow us to extend our reach, strengthen health systems, and create more inclusive opportunities for women leaders across communities, counties, and national health structures.
