We empower communities through leadership, innovation, and inclusive development.
Women in Global Health Kenya (WGH Kenya) was established in 2022 as the national chapter of Women in Global Health and formally registered as a non-governmental organization in 2025.
The chapter was founded to address persistent gender inequities within Kenya’s health system where women form the backbone of the health workforce yet remain underrepresented in leadership, governance and decision-making spaces. WGH Kenya exists to shift this imbalance by strengthening leadership pathways, generating evidence and influencing health policy at multiple levels.
Since its establishment, WGH Kenya has grown into a dynamic and structured platform of over 250 members, bringing together health professionals, Community Health Promoters, grassroots women leaders, researchers and policy actors committed to advancing gender-transformative leadership in health.
Since its establishment, WGH Kenya has grown into a structured and credible platform bringing together health professionals, Community Health Promoters, grassroots women leaders, researchers and policy actors committed to advancing gender-transformative leadership.
The organization has produced key knowledge products that strengthen the evidence base for women’s leadership in health, including a national desk review and the She Shapes research report. In addition, WGH Kenya designed and launched the Gender Transformative Inclusive Leadership (GTIL) Curriculum a structured leadership development framework equipping Community Health Promoters and grassroots women leaders with the skills to influence governance and accountability processes within health systems.
Beyond programmatic implementation, WGH Kenya contributes to global health dialogue. Members of the chapter have represented Kenya in major international forums, including the World Health Assembly (WHA), United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Africa Health Agenda International Conference (AHAIC) and Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA). At the same time, the organization maintains strong engagement in national policy convenings that shape Kenya’s health and gender agenda.
Rooted in Kenya and connected globally, WGH Kenya operates at the intersection of research, leadership development, policy engagement, and strategic advocacy positioning the chapter as both a credible national actor and an internationally engaged contributor to advancing gender equity in health.
At the heart of everything we do is a bold vision for a better world and the determination to make it real. We believe in setting ambitious goals, thinking beyond limits, and turning ideas into action.
Through the Gender Transformative Inclusive Leadership (GTIL) Programme, we empower women leaders, strengthen community leadership, and advance inclusive, equitable health systems that benefit everyone.
Our vision is a world where gender equality in leadership is the norm, not the exception, and where communities have the tools and opportunities to lead meaningful change.
